Ninth Annual Boat Building Festival

July 13, 14 and 15, 2012 at Back Cove at Preble

This July 13th through the 15th, Compass Project will present its eighth Annual Boat Building Festival at Back Cove Park on Preble Street Extension (accross from Hannaford). Compass Project is a Portland-based youth development organization that engages at-risk youth through experiential boat building programs. These hands-on programs help youth find new directions for the future by combining life-skills, academic challenges and job-skills training

During the Festival, 12-15 teams of amateurs will work side by side building their own 12-foot rowing skiffs. The finished boats will be launched from East End Beach on Sunday at 4:00 pm.

Watch as the boats come together in stages. Glimpse a rare oar-making demonstration. And be sure to join in some fun activities for the kids. You can enjoy live music near the water - even become part of the Duck Boat parade to East End Beach on Sunday afternoon.

The Row-Down! Kids won't want to miss the first-ever mascot row-down, a competition that will pit the Portland Seadogs' Slugger against the Maine Red Claws' Crusher. Who will emerge victorious? Find out Saturday at 4:00 pm.
