Staff:

Patricia Ryan is Executive Director and Founder of the Compass Project. Pat is a licensed clinical social worker and a USCG licensed captain. For many years she worked as an administrator and fundraiser for non-profit performing arts organizations in New York and Boston. Pat has taught sailing at the WoodenBoat School and other nationally-recognized sailing schools. Pat has an MSW degree from Boston College and a BA from Smith College.

Clint Chase, Clint has had many different jobs in his short 33 years, geologist, meteorological technician (on Mount Washington of all places), TA of a geological field station, substitute teacher for two years, and finally a classroom science teacher before returning to school. He is a graduate of The Landing School of boatbuilding. He joined the staff of Compass Project as Head Boatbuilder/Program Manager in summer of 2006. Clint also designs and builds boats at home and lives in Portland with an energetic three-year old and his lovely wife, Ellie Chase. Clint loves to row and sail on Casco Bay as much as possible.

Kathleen Egan, Development Associate. Kathleen most recently worked at UnumProvident, where she assisted employers with developing corporate return-to-work programs. She previously worked for a federal grant, providing technical assistance on the ADA to businesses, government entities, and individuals throughout New England. Kathleen has sailed, rowed and lived on Casco Bay for 30 years.

Shane Hall, Assistant Boat Builder, Americorps Volunteer. Shane joined the Compass Project after working with at risk youth through a wilderness therapy program. He has traveled abroad and worked with various youth oriented NGOs as part of his BA in Human Ecology from The College of the Atlantic. For the past several years, carpentry and construction have been part of both work and play. Shane enjoys spending as much time as possible on the water - mostly sea kayaking.

Margaret Mountcastle, Assistant Boat Builder, AmeriCorps Volunteer. Having worked in education and the arts since graduating from the College of William and Mary in 2004, Margaret is excited to combine those interests at the Compass Project. Being outside and making things are her most essential pastimes, so she feels at home in the boat shop.

Paige Rutherford, Special Events Coordinator, is the new AmeriCorps VISTA member. She has worked with youth oriented non-profits for many years promoting the arts, ecology, and now boat building. Paige loves being around water, so she became a Registered Maine Guide in sea kayaking and has paddled many nautical miles along the Maine coast. After graduating from College of the Atlantic, she taught as a naturalist in the White Mountains until joining the Compass Project.
